Speaker: James L DeSantis DDS, MD

Speaker Bio: Dr. DeSantis is a specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery in the Greater Binghamton area of Johnson City NY. He was born here and grew up locally in Owego. After graduating from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutritional Science, he received both his Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degrees (Thesis Honors) at the State University of New York Buffalo Schools of Dental Medicine and Medicine / Biomedical Science. He also completed his oral surgery training at the State University of New York Buffalo Medical/Dental Consortium. In addition to his dental degree and specialty certification, Dr. DeSantis studied medicine and is also a physician, receiving his Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) from UB in 2000; he performed a General Surgery Internship prior to progressing through the later residency years in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is a member of the American Dental Association and the New York State Dental Society. He is also an active member in the local and regional dental societies. He is the President Elect of the NY State Dental Association -Sixth District. He holds membership in the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the NewYork StateSociety of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is currently on staff at Wilson Memorial Regional Trauma Center/ UHS Hospitals and is both the Chairman and Director of the Department of Dentistry and a member of the Medical Executive Committee of United Health Services.. He is an active member of the trauma surgery program, often called to repair complex facial injuries. Jim lectures and precepts medical students and resident physicians at the hospital and his office. He lectures locally and regionally on topics such as trauma, pathology and anesthesia. He is also an adjunct staff member of the RDH program at Broome Community College. Dr. DeSantis offers a wide range of oral surgery services with a special interest in facial trauma and dental implant placement/ bone reconstruction. He also is particularly interested in third molar surgery and effects to lessen the fear and pain associated with this often-necessary surgery. He is honored to see return patients as well as referred siblings, cousins and friends of former third molar patients who realized… “Hey, it’s not that bad!” He lives in Endwell with his wife Kimberly (a Family Practice Physician at Endwell Family Physicians) and their five children, three dogs, a couple cats, some fish, eight ducks, bunnies and pretty much whatever strays happen to show up. He participates locally and nationally in many charitable events and contributions. He is a struggling Yankee fan whose other personal interests include collector cars, outdoors, music, family and friends and most importantly watching his children grow and attending their many athletic events. Jim is a youth basketball, baseball and football coach locally and is active with sponsoring many youth events, teams and endeavors.
